Hunting Course (start date)

This 14-week course, averaging two meetings a week, is designed to obtain a German hunting license. It familiarizes participants with hunting laws, culture, animals, techniques and equipment. Upon successful completion of the course participants will be able to legally hunt and obtain weapons in Germany.

Classes are scheduled around Training Holiday weekends. For more information, call DSN 526-2623. The first course is located at the Wild B.O.A.R. Multi-purpose room. Other course session locations TBD. Following course dates are listed on the course packet that you will receive upon registration.

Required:

  • USAREUR-AF/IMCOM-E HFSS membership
  • For testing/licensing, must be 18 years old before end of course
  • Successful FBI background records check
  • $250 course fee 
  • U.S. ID Card holders only. Participants must also be a U.S. Citizen

This course starts August 4 and the planned test date is November 5. During the duration of the course the participants will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for classroom instruction. Some Saturday off-site instructional sessions are also required. See course schedule for details.

Throughout the duration of the class the rifle/pistol and trap ranges will be available for participant utilization. It is a requirement that 250 clays are engaged and logged prior to course completion. This can be accomplished at our trap range. The weapon utilization fee will be waived for hunting course participants. Ammunition/range fees are not waived.

Test information: The test on November 5 will consist of:

  • Proper weapons handling (oral test)
  • Technical weapons information (oral test)
  • 100 meter Reh buck shoot
  • Completed 100 question exam (written test)

Subject matter areas on test include: game biology, hunting dogs/hunting procedures, weapon laws, handling of firearms, nature and animal protection, Jagdschutz, ethics, animal diseases, meat handling and hygiene

Upon completion of written test, an oral exam will be administered. This test is an array of verbal questions to determine your level of common sense and ability to react to different situations that could occur during a hunting activity.

Cost

$250 course fee.
Ammunition and other applicable fees are not included.

  • 1 year membership= $15
  • 3 year membership = $30
  • 5 year membership = $45
  • Lifetime membership = $99

Other course related costs:

  • Ammunition and range fees.
  • Running BOAR range fees (required for test) are not covered in course cost. Average cost for running BOAR range utilization is approximately $20 per person.
